City Weiqi League
City Weiqi League (hereinafter referred to as "CWL"), started and operated by Huazhi Sports Industry Co., Ltd and participated by city clubs at home and abroad, is an international Weiqi tournament which was born under the advocacy of sports reform, encouragement of national fitness and support for the development of cultural and sports industry of Chinese government. The League was the first priority of Weiqi in the world to own an independent brand and become marketized. CWL created the ‘group relay’ competition system for the game. Besides, the League features market-oriented allocation of resources, popularization of sports events, and advocates the leading role of business enterprises and unionization in terms of sports events. Through the measures, the League is to set up a platform and ECO-system for Weiqi industry so as to uphold the legacy of traditional cultures of China.
Since the start of the League in 2015, the number of clubs joining the League had grown from 18 to 32 by the 3rd season of the tournament. In the 2019 season(5th season), the League attracted a total of 32 clubs, more than 380 players and coaches from 32 cities in the world, including those from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanning, Macao, Taipei, Sydney, Osaka, Bangkok, Toronto, Singapore, Paris and Los Angeles. The League, with each of its seasons lasting 8 months, is held in a number of cities in and out of China and attracts over 30,000 spectators. Annually, the CWL holds multiple large Weiqi events with each attended by over 1,000 staff and other activities from all-star games, games for entrepreneur players, forums, autographed product sales events, gala shows to auctions, which jointly creates the brand of “Carnivals of City Weiqi League”. the League have added more venues in Canada, France, Japan, Thailand and Singapore, etc. and enhance the exchange and cooperation in the field of sports culture between China and foreign countries In this way, CWL has become the Weiqi League with the widest coverage area, the largest number of participants, the highest level of competition and the best interactive participation in the world. The League is committed to the innovations in the reform of sports industry, industrialization of Weiqi events, implementation advocacy of national fitness and promotion of city images. The league has been awarded the titles of “China Excellent Event for Sports Tourism” in 2016, “Guangxi Demonstration Project of Sports Industry” in 2017, “China Excellent Event for Sports Tourism” and “Guangxi Excellent Event for Sports Tourism” in 2019.
